Early inflammatory response paralyzes T cells

I love it when an article starts out "In a discovery that is likely to rewrite immunology text books" :smug:

Hmmm - a paralyzed immune system. T-cells are apparently not working well in ME/CFS and if this applies to T-cells it may very well apply to NK cells...

"There's a three-signal process to activate T cells of which each component is essential for proper activation," said first author Gail Sckisel, a post-doctoral fellow. "But no one had really looked at what happens if they are delivered out of sequence. If the third signal -- cytokines -- is given prematurely, it basically paralyzes CD4 T cells."

It's disturbing though because it suggests that immunotherapy given to boost the immune system - could be suppressing it.

Plus it could point a way to turn off autoimmune disorders - and maybe get off the steroid regimens...

This is indeed a huge finding. Wow! :woot:

Thanks!
